Is the Media to blame for pop culture’s demise? Yes and no.

Yes, because it’s true, “what you eat, you become” …and we are force fed News that is on a constant downward spiral.

Every day, all day we hear about so much tragedy, violence, sex, drugs, and on and on. It may not be the fault of the News Media alone, but the collaboration of public relations people promoting and glamourizing the poor behavior of celebrity clients.

We seem to be a copycat society — if celebs do it, then it must be cool.

This is the Information Age, and we want to know what is going on locally and globally. If the Media doesn’t report it, then we’ll get it on the Internet.

So, no, the Media is not entirely to blame. We have a responsibility as adults to find ways to ensure that the Media reports information, but does not exploit it. Perhaps we can start demanding options that report a lot more positive information. Sounds too idealistic?

Maybe that’s where we’ve gone wrong. Anything “nice” is considered lame. However, there’s a lot of good things going on in the world and it wouldn’t hurt to broadcast those stories as often as they do the bad stuff.

The wise thing to do is learn to discern what brings value and purpose to our lives. Teach young people that poor behavior, like natural disasters, happen. People make mistakes. It isn’t a trend to be emulated.
